Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon, born on 22nd March 1976 was an American actress. She has been awarded numerous accolades including an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award. Time magazine and Forbes both included her in the top 100 most influential people on the world in 2005 and in 2006 respectively. Forbes listed her as the world's most successful actress in 2021. She has an estimated net worth $400 million. Witherspoon made her screen debut in The Man in the Moon (1991). In 1999, she appeared as an actress who played a supporting role in Cruel Intentions and also in the role of Tracy Flick in Election. Her roles in Legally Blonde (2001 and its sequel 2003) as well as in Sweet Home Alabama (2002 ) led to her being recognized more widely. The film was critically acclaimed and received the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as June Carter Cash, in the musical biopic Walk the Line. Following a slump in her career during which Water for Elephants (2011) was her sole box office hit, Witherspoon decided to make an appearance and produced and play Cheryl Strayed, the drama Wild (2014). This resulted in her receiving a second Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She has since primarily worked on television, producing and starring in various female-led literary adaptations for her company Hello Sunshine. They include Big Little Lies (2017-2018), The Morning Show (2019-20) and Little Fires Everywhere (2020), all HBO drama series. She was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Limited Series for the first episode. She also produced the movies Gone Girl (2014), and Where the Crawdads Sing (222). She is on the board of directors for the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) and was appointed Global Ambassador of Avon Products in 2007, acting as the honorary chair of the charitable Avon Foundation dedicated to women's causes.
